Dear Rogers Elementary School Family,

I am writing this letter asking for support for a family within our wonderful Rogers community.  About three weeks ago my next door neighbor, eight year old Kenneth Vick, more commonly known as Kenny, became ill with what was initially thought to be the flu. The pediatrician sent Kenny for further tests after he failed to get better.  That awful day, Kenny and his family learned that he was not fighting the flu, but something much worse. Kenny has a brain tumor. In the past two weeks, Kenny has endured two major brain surgeries.  Removal of the tumor was impossible; therefore, he is getting ready for more treatment..

Kenny has a sense of humor unlike any person I have ever met.  He is a positive little boy with a great heart. Kenny has a lot of life in him and I want to do my part in helping him get better. Normally, Kenny can be seen outside running, playing, and joking; now, he is fighting a battle beyond his comprehension.  Kenny can not wait to get well enough to come back to Rogers.  The little things we take for granted have become the focus of Kenny’s recovery.

While we are unable to remove the devastation that this tumor has brought to Kenny and those who know and love him, we can try to ease the burden. Right now, along with his parents Janice and Craig, and first grade sister Megan, third grader Kenny Vick is fighting for his life.  This family needs all the support that their Rogers family can offer.

I am asking for help with providing support for the family in a magnitude of ways. Letters and cards to Kenny, Megan, and the entire family will help show our support. With coming medical bills, transportation to various hospitals, accommodations, and everyday living expenses, fundraising will help.  Any other ways that our creative community can think of to help make things easier on one of our own Rogers families are welcome. Please contact me with any further questions or ideas.

Mrs. Schiller has agreed to assist us in collecting donations for the family.  You can bring your donations to the office, made out to Rogers Elementary School, c/o Helping Kenny Fund.  If you would like to send a note, card, or any other message to the Vick family, please send them to the Rogers office and they will be forwarded to the family.
